Meet the Clementine Top and Dress

Clementine is a super staple piece to elevate your wardrobe with comfort and ease. As a knit top, Clementine's princess seams restyle a comfy t-shirt into a polished top. In her dress form, Clementine's curved seams glide over the body, creating a timeless fit-and-flare silhouette.

Customising Clementine

Take Clementine's easy elegance into every season and occasion with multiple necklines, sleeve lengths and hemlines. For the bodice, choose between a casual scoop neck or sophisticated cowl, and a short, three-quarter, and full length sleeve. The top has a hip length hem with a subtle high-low curve, or you can twirl around in a dress at either mid-thigh or above-the-knee-length.

As with any sewing project, fabric plays a role here too. Clementine was designed for knit fabrics with at least ten percent horizontal stretch. Suggested fabrics include cotton jersey, viscose jersey, merino jersey, and light to medium-weight double knits, or sweater knits. Pair the cowl neck view with something soft and drapey for a slinky, swishy version. Or, play up the volume of the skirt with a more full-bodied fabric like a ponte or double knit. Depending on your fabric choice, you can have a Clementine that's sweet for everyday wear, or a showstopping number in jacquard or velvet knit.

Sewing Made Simple

Clementine was designed to be a straight-forward sew with big wardrobe impact. Stable knits, bust cup options and the panelled style lines are a recipe for easy fitting. Plus, our detailed instructions are here to help build confidence around cool techniques like in-seam pockets and sewing the cowl neckline. Clementine is a great introduction for those new to sewing with knits, and a fast but satisfying projects for stretch fabric experts.

What's new, Clementine?

First, sizing! We're so happy to have Clementine in our full size range. Our 28-56 range includes hips measuring 83cm (32.5") to 153cm (60.5"). For Clementine's princess seams, the pattern also offers two bust cup options, so each size includes separate pattern pieces for a medium or full bust.

Secondly, we've updated the fit a little around the armscye, sleeve and neckband to offer a more tailored fit.

Lastly, for all you projector lovers, Clementine now has a projector file! For printed pattern lovers, we also reworked the printing distribution for the pattern files for more sustainable printing with less pages.

Do you have an attraction to sheer fabrics, like me? I know they are extra tricky in a multitude of ways, so here is a sprinkling of tips I wish I’d known about when I started sewing with sheer fabrics. Some examples of sheers I like to sew with are chiffon, georgette, gauze, and some lightweight cottons such as voile. I've also found lightweight linens can be quite sheer as well!
